You can be told to “just relax” and still have no idea how.
You’ve probably heard it a hundred times: stay calm, breathe, try to relax. And if you’re pregnant, you might be wondering how you’re actually supposed to do that when your mind is racing, your body feels like it belongs to someone else, or you’re scared of what’s coming.
That’s because relaxation isn’t something you switch on. It’s something you practise, the same way you’d practise anything else you want to feel familiar when it matters.
The Inner Room gives you somewhere to practise. You press play, get comfy and let your body learn what it feels like to soften and settle, so it’s something you know how to find, not something you’re hoping for.
This isn’t about relaxing perfectly.
You don’t have to clear your mind, lie perfectly still or feel calm every time. Some days you’ll drift off in two minutes, and some days your brain will chatter the whole way through. All of that counts and is part of your practice
The point isn’t to get relaxation or meditation ‘right.’ It’s to spend time noticing what helps you settle, so that when birth gets intense you have something familiar to come back to. Remember : you can’t control how birth unfolds, but you CAN prepare for how you meet it.
What’s included?
Short ones when you have a few minutes.
Longer ones when you want to go deeper.
Sound baths when you’d rather just listen.
You don’t have to listen in any particular order. Come back to what you need, when you need it. This is your preparation. Your body. Your experience.
12 guided relaxations
All designed with different thought processes and experiences in mind.
10 sound bath pieces
Built around the sound bowl, with Ruby from Ruby’s Refuge using other instruments to create different frequencies, made specifically for pregnancy, labour and childbirth. More on these below.
-
Guided relaxations for when your mind is racing or the “what ifs” are loud. They help you slow down, breathe and feel more settled in your body.
-
The full 50 minute deeply immersive practice for birth. Designed to listen to 2 or 3 times before the day. You can then put it on a loop during your labour and birth.
-
A chance to practice meeting sensation with softness instead of tension, so it feels more familiar before labour.
-
Longer, slower tracks for winding down in the evening, resting during the day or drifting off to sleep.
-
Simple breathing exercises you can practise now and come back to in each phase of labour.
-
Gentle practices to connect with your baby in pregnancy, and for the first days after they arrive.
WhyThe Inner Room?
There’s plenty of birth information out there. This is somewhere to put it down.
Between antenatal classes, podcasts, books and social media, you probably don’t need another place to consume information. What you might need is a place to stop, breathe and let your body catch up.
That’s what The Inner Room is for. It’s for anyone who is pregnant, at any stage, who feels scared of giving birth or isn’t sure how they’ll cope, and for every kind of birth, including caesarean and epidural.
I wanted to build this space so you can come back to it at any time of day, from anywhere. Meditation is a skill, and like any skill it gets more familiar the more you practise it, so you’re welcome to start small and build it at your own pace.
I’m not here to promise you a particular type of birth. I’m here to give you something to come back to, whichever one you end up having.
Ready to step inside?
You don’t need to prepare for the perfect birth, or know everything. Give yourself somewhere to slow down, soften and practise coming back to your body. Learn in your own time and come back whenever you need it.
